I don’t think it could have gone any better. Mary continued to work closely with us concerning our studies and exam preparation and delivered classes that allowed us to familiarise ourselves with all aspects of the exam. We were engaged and her sense of fun and enthusiasm and were always present in classes, an aspect that I think is difficult to achieve in this teaching environment! It was a pleasure to continue working with Mary and with the Anglophil under these circumstances. It reflected the prevailing sense of goodwill and strong commitment, from Mary, and all of us, and for that, I think she deserves our sincere gratitude.

Despite the lockdown measures in place, the Anglophil overcame any challenges presented. Regarding the work set by my teacher, I would always receive feedback and the correct answers, which helped me to understand the exam requirements more clearly. At first, the synchronous classes were difficult because of the distance, I felt shyer than when in a classroom situation and this made it more difficult in terms of speaking. However, I think we’re all used to it now and communicating has become easier! In contrast to what I expected, as I developed my speaking skills with the teacher, I became more comfortable, so it actually turned out to be a very positive situation for me.

Online classes were a new experience for everyone. I think they went very well; we weren’t less productive and we didn’t experience any significant difficulties, except for a few technical problems from time to time. Apart from not being together in the classroom, not much has changed, even our pace of work remained the same. Although I prefer classes on the school’s premises, overall, it was a positive experience.

I attended classes at the Anglophil from Year 10 to the end of Year 12. Every year, I sat an exam (PET/FCE/CAE) and had very good grades, which wouldn’t have been possible without the Anglophil’s excellent help.
For those who have studied English throughout secondary school, as I did, my time at the Anglophil, a renowned language teaching centre, was extremely important because we always studied the subject matter in advance, which helped me to understand it.
In 2015, I was also asked if I would like to take part in an intensive Mandarin Chinese course, which I accepted. It fuelled my interest in the language and I now want to master Mandarin Chinese to the same extent as English.
My time at the Anglophil was both enjoyable and enriching.

I studied English at the Anglophil for 6 years and it was clearly worth it, not only in terms of my results concerning my schoolwork but also because we studied towards the Cambridge English Language Assessments, which proved to be essential for our future, both academically and professionally. At the same time, I saw a noticeable improvement in my understanding and in the speaking and writing components of the language. It is a tool that facilitates our lives – by simply enabling us to understand a film or to communicate with other people when visiting other countries. Regarding the classes themselves, I have always admired the class dynamics, students are encouraged to participate, communicate with their colleagues and work together, thus developing their knowledge and forming enriching friendships.

I also studied Spanish at the Anglophil, from Grades 7 to 9, however the overall objective was slightly different from the outset. When I started secondary school, I began to realise that it was a shame to have studied the language for 3 years to then lose it over time and not benefit from my efforts. Therefore, I decided to sit an exam in line with my appropriate language level so that my language skills and knowledge were officially recognised. I had private language lessons over the summer and the following year I successfully sat the exam.
In brief, I enjoyed six very rewarding years here, which were beneficial in terms of academic performance and personal wealth, the friendships formed with other colleagues and teachers.
To conclude, I would like to emphasise the excellent team that supports this school, from the management to the teaching and administrative staff. All the dedication, effort and commitment shown by this team is well-known and is a determining factor in the success of their students, which I have had the pleasure and the honour of being a part of. There is no better confirmation of my words than all the recognition and awards that the school has received over the years…
After looking back on these years, it just remains for me to express my sincere gratitude. I’m now starting my university degree away from home, but I know that when I need some support in this area, there will always be someone on the other side of the telephone ready and available to help me.

The Spanish course is very well-designed, as it addresses not only the language learning components but also exam preparation, which is crucial as it is linked to the final assessment prior to university admission. Exposure provided to the Spanish language is highly appropriate as it centres on the most fundamental areas. The support provided by the language teaching centre is very useful, the teachers clarify any queries and help is always close at hand.

As a working student, there were some additional obstacles to overcome during my time at the Anglophil. I haven’t had such intense contact with the English language in 15 years and it was difficult to catch up with the other students. However, I must thank the entire team of outstanding professionals at the school who quickly made me feel at home and helped me enormously to overcome my difficulties.
Thank you for all your help! The Anglophil Centre is like my second home!

There are few people that have the pleasure of having their name engraved in our minds forever, but those whose actions or lessons have made us grow as a person, are the ones that most certainly won't be forgotten.

I would like say a big THANK YOU to you Mary, for being part of this important chapter of my life that is now ending. You are the proof that education is far more than simply teaching what is in the books, it's about making connections with the students, adapting to their personality in order to make learning enjoyable. I know I wasn't the easiest person to deal with and that sometimes I can be a bit moody, but I like to think that's what's special about me.

I don't know what this new stage of my life will bring me, but I know I will always have in my heart the memories that I shared with that one fantastic English teacher, that taught me a lot about life.
